Do you need a Leading Environmental Scientist and Green Consumer Expert who is available to comment on King’s Speech? by Angela Terry 17 Jul 2024 Press Releases 3 min read Share this article Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Copy linkLink copied! Environmental scientist Angela Terry is an experienced media-friendly energy expert and green consumer expert who is available to talk with journalists about Great British Energy, on-shore wind farms, energy bills and other green policies that Labour will announce in the King’s Speech. As an energy expert Angela, the founder of green consumer advice site One Home, has debated the efficacy of wind farms with LBC’s Nick Ferrari, explained heat pumps to Radio 5 Live listeners, water quality on ITV Tonight and brought the issues of coastal erosion and mitigation for flooding to the attention of the media. Much of the legislation laid out in the Labour government’s first King’s Speech today will impact the move to Net Zero, employment opportunities in the green sector, energy costs and ambitious house building. Angela is an experienced media commentator and green consumer expert. She can talk about: On-shore wind: As an energy expert, Angela believes the secret to lowering household energy bills permanently is to promote clean energy and reduce reliance on imported oil and gas. She believes public opinion backs the roll out of wind farms, and time was lost by the last Government’s de facto ban on developing wind farms. Within days of the ban being lifted a wind turbine was approved in East Riding of Yorkshire. Angela is a pioneer of community energy in the UK, and built the first community wind farm. New homes: With the Deputy Prime Minister pledging planning reforms, new towns and 1.5 million new homes, Angela believes we must improve quality to future-proof housing. The new builds must be suitable for a warmer climate to prevent overheating and reduce energy use and energy costs through an insulation campaign. She also feels strongly that resilience to flooding is key, not just on flood plains but everywhere at flood risk. Great British Energy: Angela believes the key to developing new, clean energy technology is in unlocking finance so the Government doesn’t have to pay. The Green Prosperity Plan will bring skilled jobs, and as a media friendly green expert who has had a career in renewables, Angela welcomes this. But she is calling for more detail about grid reform. Solar power: The Govt has consented to three solar parks with combined capacity of 1.35 GW (a huge capacity) as part of their new solar for energy security plan, and unveiled plans for a “rooftop revolution” that will see millions more homes fitted with solar panels to reduce energy bills and tackle the climate crisis. Great British Energy will help finance the building of this new, low-carbon infrastructure. What’s missing?: What’s missing from the announcements so far is a commitment to reliable and unbiased information. We know the public wants to help diminish the impact of a warming world and to understand what steps they can take to adapt, cut costs and stay safe. Therefore green consumer expert Angela would urge the Government to mobilise the nation and commit to a public education campaign. Using people power we can share knowledge and enthusiasm for cost and energy-saving measures for all British households. Angela is an energy expert and enjoys working with the media. She’s been featured on news outlets including the Daily Telegraph, LBC, BBC 5 Live, The Guardian, Metro, The Sun and Sky News. Angela was Development Director for Energy4All, Head of Wood Fuel for the Forestry Commission and a carbon scientist in New Zealand. She won Regen’s 2024 Net Zero Energy Pioneer Award for her many media appearances advocating for clean energy and as a green consumer expert sharing One Home’s independent advice.
