Angela Terry is CEO of climate charity One Home, and helped to build the UK’s first community wind farm. She can explain the what, why and how of Labour’s proposed Great British Energy scheme as well as its potential impact on consumers, and analyse what we know of the other parties’ green pledges. Angela is a long-standing energy campaigner who has appeared on major news networks to explain and analyse policy. She argues the next Government must prioritise home insulation, without which energy bills in millions of households will remain high, no matter what scheme is put in place. Angela Terry, CEO of One Home, said: “I welcome any promised investment in renewable energy, as this is key to energy security and lower bills for households. “Wind, hydro and solar power are cheaper than gas and oil, and a much cleaner alternative than burning fossil fuels, which contributes massively to the climate crisis. “Big polluters have been making profits of nearly £1billion, in part due to the Ukraine War, so there’s plenty of scope for Britain to invest to accelerate the energy transition, particularly in less developed technologies such as offshore wind farms, where the UK could become a global champion. “By showing leadership in this area a publicly owned energy company could both inspire and partner with the private sector to invest more in renewables, and give grants to communities to make places like hospitals and schools more energy efficient. “However, I am calling on whichever party forms the next Government to urgently invest in insulating the nation’s homes as their top priority, something I’ve heard very little about during the election campaign so far. “Creating clean energy is important, but without insulation, too much of that energy simply escapes a home and heats the sky, meaning bills will not go down by as much as they should. “We are still paying 50 percent more for our energy than three years ago, and bills are predicted to rise again this winter, so reducing demand is as important, if not more so, than generating clean energy.” For more information please contact Sam Carlisle on 07850 111213 or sam.carlisle@causecommunications.co.uk or Jenna Sloan on 07914 424987 or jenna.sloan@causecommunications.co.uk Notes to editors One Home is an independent climate action charity that helps UK households to adapt to a low cost, low carbon lifestyle and extreme weather.
