#Fallaesthetic has been trending on and off on Tik Tok since September, lots of us are thinking about our interiors now we’re all going to be spending more time inside.

There are surprisingly simple things you can do that’ll keep the cost down and help the environment at the same time.

Decorating can cost a lot but there are surprisingly simple things you can do that’ll keep the cost down and help the environment at the same time. You don’t have to spend a fortune on brand new kitchens or entirely new floors for a space to feel significantly different after a bit of work.

Create a clear canvas before you start

Start by having a clear out – firstly you’ll likely find things you can sell and make some money and secondly you’ll empty shelves and spaces that have had things on the surface so your space will instantly feel cleaner and more streamlined. The one thing all show homes have in common is clear empty side boards and tables so keep things clear to feel like you have space.

Move things around

Don’t be scared to move things from room to room and try different things before you settle.

Move cushions around for a different look

Rearranging furniture can feel like you’re making a huge difference as can switching the rooms you have rugs in, don’t be scared to move things from room to room and try different things before you settle. Switch up things like cushions too and move them from bedrooms to the lounge or vice versa for a change.

If there are things you need or want, ask friends if they have anything they want to swap with you – you’d be surprised at how many people leave something in their home because they think it’s too good to throw but they don’t really want it.

Get on social media

Check marketplace and social media pages for things being given away for free in your area too and if you need to get rid of something, list it there.

When it comes to giving stuff away though, make sure you don’t leave it outside the edge of your property or you could be at fault for fly tipping.

A woman called Isabelle Peppin from Southborne, Dorset was fined £500 recently for leaving an Ikea cabinet outside her home for people to take for free. She argued she was just recycling it after sticking a note on it saying she was giving it away but council officials still fined her. Fly tipping at it’s most serious carries a £50,000 fine and 12 months in prison.

Little things like colour scheming bookshelves and melting used candles into new ones are small but more time-consuming steps that can make a huge difference to a space too.

Don’t be scared of colour

Paint can be expensive and lots of us feel that a room isn’t truly changed and decorated unless it’s a different colour but you don’t have to spend a fortune on paint and paint all four walls.

Just doing a feature wall – like the one where the TV is or the one where the bed rests against can make a big difference so see what paint you have leftover or ask friends or social media if anyone has anything that could cover a single wall.
